ICUP 2028 will take place at Munthuys, located in Utrecht’s historic Muntgebouw. For more than a century, this landmark building was where Dutch coins were struck. Today, after a major renovation, the Muntgebouw has been transformed into a full-service conference and event venue while retaining the character of its industrial heritage.
History of Het Muntgebouw
1647: Utrecht’s minting tradition begins.
1908: Architect C.H. Peters designs the new Muntgebouw on Leidseweg.
1911: The Muntgebouw opens as the site where the Rijksmunt is struck.
2020: Coin production moves to Houten and the building gains a new role.
2023-2025: Renovation transforms the building into a sustainable rijksmonument.
2026: Munthuys opens as an event venue in the Muntgebouw.
Conference facilities
Munthuys includes large event halls, meeting rooms, private dining rooms, a courtyard, and Gastrobar Florijn. Accessibility, room names, capacities, and practical delegate information will be added once the final room plan is confirmed.
